Soup: The American Tourist and Mexican Fisherman →
soupsoup:
An American tourist was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.
Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The tourist complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.
The…

Academics as of June 20, 2011
So, somebody on Facebook commented on their GPA which got me thinking about mine. I graduated with a 3.874, which falls short of Summa Cum Laude (top honors) by a meager .026 and into Magna Cum Laude. I am quite upset by this, I mean, just 1 letter grade away, which, had I known, I may have been able to do.
I’m positive that I will get over soon enough. For now I comfort myself with the...

H.P. and the PHILOSOPHER'S Stone
I love Harry Potter and I’ve been trying to get all the books in the series in hardcover and I acquired the first two books in the series today (I also have the last two in hardcover already) and I remembered that the title of the first book, which in the U.S. is H.P. and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was originally H.P. and the Philosopher’s Stone. I dislike this change and I just felt...

Pirate, but not a butt one...
I watched the movie Pirate Radio today and it was great. If I fall short of the mark I’m currently attempting to reach I’ll keep the knife from twisting by aspiring to be a pirate radio DJ instead! That was the fun yet brief daydream I had before I realized being such a disc jockey is more than likely out of date. Oh well!

Mere Madness
“The most sober men, when they walk alone without care and employment of mind, would be unwilling the vanity and extravagance of their thought at that time should be publicly seen; which is a confession, that passions unguided, are for the most part mere madness.”- Thomas Hobbes
I love this quote because I pretty much agree with it. I know for certain that I appreciate the clandestine...

Benevolence vs Justice
I guess it’s not that I’m not benevolent or that I don’t believe benevolence does great things, it’s that I think it’s all too often misguided and unreliable.
There are bad people out there… there are a lot of bad people out there. Some people are only bad for a short while, others for a lot longer. Some do bad things even though they are overall good people....

On the Inconsistency of Goodwill in Persons
Sometimes I fear how short-sighted, naive and selfish people can be… and that’s coming from someone who is a little bit of all three.
One reason I love John Rawls is because I believe he seriously gets people to stop fucking around and puts them in the position they should be… in the Original Position under the Veil of Ignorance (which I think would logically place them in the...

“The difference between imaginary characters and real ones is not in the narrative form of what they do; it is in the degree of their authorship of that form and of their own deeds.” Alasdair MacIntyre
I like this quote because it is an interesting way of looking at the human condition. I think it establishes that we are at most co-authors of our lives which are constrained by the...
